Our 9-step process allows us to refinish your entry way at usually less than 1/4 the cost of replacement. It is a GREEN, affordable, furniture-grade finish for your entry way that will provide you with years of lasting beauty. Our unique, comprehensive 9-step entry refinishing processes, insures that your entry way or other doors will have lasting beauty for years to come.
Step #1: Making The Decision To Refinish Your Door Properly
We all have to make decisions on where to spend our money, especially in these economically challenged times. But the fact remains, your front door is the first thing guests see and if you wait too long it may never come back to its original condition. Cracks in the wood and finish allow weather to come in and destroy your door. When the finish fails, it’s like an open wound. To save your door and entry unit, and protect it for years to come, it must be done properly.
It is the formal entry into your home. For pride of ownership, or increased resale and salability, the shape of your front door says volumes about the upkeep of your entire home. Given the expense of replacement, a quality job protects the investment in your entry door unit for years to come at less than 1/4 the price of replacement.
Let us show you just how affordable a quality finish is. We help you with color selection, recommend the right process for you, even partner with you to save you money where you do some of the work. We custom mix all our colors right onsite, so we can match any other wood color you may have in your home. (See step #9 for the completion of this door)
Step #2: Removing The Door(s) For Stripping
We tape plastic in your entryway in place of the door so that weather and animals do not get in or out. We set up a tent on your site and strip the door under cover so that the sun does not evaporate the stripper before it has a chance to work.
The doors are reinstalled at the end of each day so that you are never without security. If you need to be gone during this process, we make sure that someone is always present to insure the security of your home while we are working.
Step #3: Removing Hardware, Repairing And Taping Windows
All hardware is removed so that we can get a uniform stripping, sanding and refinishing. If there are cracks in the door they are filled with epoxy at this time. Windows are carefully protected with special tape and papered to protect them during this step in our process.
Step #4: Removing The Door(s) For Stripping

Steps #5-8: Applying The Hand-Rubbed Oil Finish 3-4 Times Over A 3-4 Day Period
For our hand-rubbed, oil finish, we apply 2-3 coats of thick, rich oil that nourishes your wood like lotion nourishes your skin. So for our hand-rubbed oil process we go through this step 2-3 times over 2-3 days.
The first coat soaks in and penetrates the wood fibers. The second coat partly soaks in with some oil staying on the surface. Sometimes a third coat in necessary to give a shinyer finish.
We have shown many examples of this finish in both our residential and commercial sections. Skip steps 5-8 and go directly to step 9 for the conclusion of our oil finish.
Step #9: The Finished Product: A Fine, European, Furniture-Grade Finish
After the third application of our hand-rubbed oil finish, and the door has dried for a short period, that same day, the tape and paper is removed, the hardware is reinstalled.
The door is dry to the touch within a few hours after completion, but not fully cured for about 2-weeks. We will leave out the weather stripping for the 48 hour period to insure that no marks around the edges of the door occur during the curing period. We show the homeowner how to very easily put back in the weather stripping after this time.
You can be confident that your entry unit will have a fine, European furniture-grade finish that will have a long life and look beautiful for years to come. This protects your investment in your formal entry to your home as well as increasing your home’s value.
